This Tech Tips video will show you how to adjust the mortise chassis to resolve push-to-set issues on mortise panic devices.
Step 1: Try to set push-to-set the normal way — press the button, apply power, get the first beep, remove power, take your finger off the button, and push the pad in. Notice that instead of a second beep, the pad just pulls in each time.
Step 2: Test by pushing the pad in as hard as possible, apply power, and see if the motor keeps spinning. If it does, the device doesn’t recognize that the pad is fully pushed in.
Step 3: Identify that something is preventing full pad travel — in this case, the mortise chassis is the issue.
Step 4: Adjust the mortise chassis by loosening the top and bottom adjustment screws. Slide the chassis back to give the push pad more room to travel.
Step 5: Tighten the adjustment screws once the chassis is correctly positioned. You can either manually snug it up or fire the panic device and adjust to that position.
Step 6: Test the push pad — push it in, confirm the latch fully retracts, and verify that the device works every time without needing to reprogram.
